The contrast betwen Chinese and the English list below shows that the formation of Chinese is very easy: 公牛, 母牛 and 小牛. We merely use "公", "母" and "小" to make those animals male, female and young. And we have one word 阉 or 骟 to refer to castrated animals. We have one 群 for the groups of nearly all animals. Generally speaking, we have one word 叫 to refer to the sound of animals. But English provides us with several columns of words for all these concepts:
